The Swans on Lake Lucerne
The early 1900s were certainly a slower time, affording ample opportunity for people to enjoy the swans that once graced a lake in a small town such as Orlando. Swans were present on Lake Lucerne as early as 1908, perhaps earlier. The notorious "Billy the Tyrant" arrived from England in 1910. Many of the swans were bred on the "Hughy Peninsula," which still remains at the north-west corner of the lake.

This is a view of the northwestern shore of the lake, as seen from the southwestern corner near the intersection of America St. and South Lucerne Circle. Part of the Hughey Peninsula is visible at right. This card is postmarked 1925.
